Operating Theater

The operating theater fascinates me.  I refer persons to surgeons who cure, heal, lessen pain or palliate. While training to become a physician, I assisted with operations. And I have been a patient myself.

The performance in the operating theater is high drama. The actors are real. The props are not shams, the action is not faked. It is a life and death performance. And what is unique about the performances is that the actors are masked. The only significant part of their body that is visible is the eyes.

These images explore my fascination with the operating theater with its masked actors and their eyes, which portray their resolve, their emotions and their humanity.
